A Note From the Writer

Long and short, twelve years ago, a client of mine for many years invited me to attend his son's hockey game.  The game was at University of Michigan and they were hosting the University of Connecticut where his son played. Being African American, this was my first experience at a hockey game. Needless to say I was the minority in the arena. As a matter of fact, I noticed that I was the only black person in the building and there were no black players on the team! This began to arouse my curiosity on why more black people didn’t play this popular sport. As I did more research on the history of black hockey players and their struggle in this sport, I thought this would make a great story.

In 2007, I began writing “Black Ice”. My background includes writing for radio and television commercials, so writing a movie script was a new challenge for me. As I began writing the outline for the script, I had this burning desire of getting it done. It was a story that was in me and needed to be told. I enrolled in script writing classes to learn as much as I could about screenwriting. From there I purchased  software for writers, Final Draft, and began formatting the script. Like most scripts, it became rewrite after rewrite and critique after critique! Twelve years later, we created a story that captures the message that I'm convinced God wants me to deliver. "Black Ice ", is a tale of redemption, forgiveness, and perseverance. This story will inspire young black kids that they too can play this game with their God given rhythm.
